Lights, Camera, Action: Every Child a Filmmaker with INTO Film

Empowering young voices through storytelling and creativity

As part of the INTO Film Every Child a Filmmaker project, funded by Warner Bros. We had the privilege of hosting an incredible workshop with students from West Herts College. This programme is designed to inspire young people to explore filmmaking, with a special screening of their short film at the Vue Cinema at the end of the programme!

The short, ‘Static’ was created by 10 talented film and media students, and was paired with the blockbuster Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem for its screening. For these aspiring filmmakers, seeing their work on the big screen alongside a major feature was an unforgettable experience. The workshop not only taught practical filmmaking skills but also empowered them to bring their unique creative visions to life.

Creating Cinematic Magic: Behind the Scenes of the Workshop

In a week-long programme, the students transformed a concept into a fully realised short film. The film Static—centred on a young man’s unnerving encounter with a supernatural entity during a high-stakes job interview—offered a unique blend of suspense and creativity.

From pre-production planning to on-set collaboration, the students dove into all aspects of filmmaking. Working with professional-grade equipment and under the guidance of industry experts, they learned about script development, cinematography, and the art of directing. Despite some time constraints, their passion and teamwork made the experience seamless and rewarding.

We were thrilled to see how they embraced challenges, from developing an engaging script to capturing complex shots. The resulting short was a testament to their hard work and creativity.

On the Big Screen: A Day to Remember at Vue Cinema

The screening at Vue Cinema was the cherry on top of this exciting journey. Watching their short film preceding the new energetic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film gave the students a sense of accomplishment and pride. The pairing of their film with such a high-energy feature was intentional—it reflected the excitement and innovation of the student’s work.

Seeing their film on the same screen where Hollywood blockbusters are shown was a moment of realisation for the students, solidifying their potential futures in the film industry.
